I just checked, but ServiceStart and SerivceRequest are properly triggered in both protocols. However, the version of the component you're using is pretty old (from 2006), so perhaps that was an issue which was fixed in one of the later versions.

Can you please try the latest version? Just remember to backup your existing version in case you have licensed version.
