Permissions revisited (General questions)

by jasnew1969, Friday, September 26, 2008, 03:30 (5902 days ago)

Scenario:
Windows XP Pro
Users: Administrator(admin priviledges)
Manager(user priviledges)
Assistant(user priviledges)

Problem:
When a file is updated as a regular user, the file is deleted. When the new file is copied over, it doesn't get replaced with the same permissions. If it's the manager, then assistant is missing. If it's assistant, then manager is doesn't have permission. The files are set to inherit their permissions from the parent folder. Bld is 1.3.4.91. Have you tested this type of scenario? Do you have the same issues?

Hi,

What folder are you updating files in? In case of using User's documents, then i believe this would be normal, since regular user's can't see other user's documents.

Did you try using some other directory (not in Documents and settings)?

Hi,

Are you running wodUpSv (WodAppUpdate service) on that machine? What does ServiceIsRunning property return?

When update is done under regular user, that user will automatically take ownership of the file. In order to avoid this, wodUpSv should be used.

Can you please try it?

Damba

Permissions before the update:

Permissions after an update:

Administrators never lose permissions, only power users and users. If I had performed the update as manager, then he would still have access, but all other users and power users would be left out.

Hi,

Your problem with file permissions should be fixed. Can you please download latest version and try it again?

Let us know how it goes.

That fixed it. That was the last problem I had before I rolled it out. Thanks!
