Socket error event? (General questions)

by Eric D. Wilson, Monday, February 18, 2008, 22:10 (6122 days ago)

I'm evaluating the wodTelnetDLX and wodCertificate components for use in an application that needs to start supporting SSL. Currently the application uses the Winsock ActiveX control for TCP socket communication.

One of the things I noticed in reviewing wodTelnetDLX is that there isn't an Error() event. If an error is encountered in the underlying socket or within the wodTelnetDLX component itself will the component simply raise an exception? If an error occurs in the socket can I assume that the Disconnected() event will be raises?

Thanks
Eric

Hi Eric,

That depends. I.e: most errors that happen during connection negotiation are handled and provided in Connected Event. If there is an error related to certificates, it would be provided in HostCertificate Event, while transfer errors are thrown in TransferEnd event.

If however, an error occurs that lead to communication problems, the component will disconnect. You should be able to check ErrorText property for error description.

Hope I helped.
