wodCrypt on Windows Client matching UNIX Server (General questions)

by dschmidt, Thursday, June 17, 2004, 00:14 (7465 days ago)

We are looking at using wodCrypt for a variety of things MD5 fingerprinting of files for example. We can match a fingerprint of a file from our windows front end (using wodCrypt) to the same file on our UNIX server using a utility there. The file encryption/decryption works flawlessly as well.

Our problem lies with the ability to do the same with AES encrypted data. We need to be able to encrypt a string on the client (using wodCrypt) and be able to decrypt that same string on the server. This also has to happen the other way from server to client.

What is recommended for use on the UNIX side to provide AES encryption/decryption. A command line type of tool would be preferable. Any suggestions in terms of where to look, what to use and switches/etc to match would be much appreciated. Our UNIX box is running Redhat Enterprise.

Darren,

I was unable to make OpenSSL 0.9.7 (which supports AES) make compatible with any other AES implementation found, so at this point I cannot recommend it (even wodCrypt uses OpenSSL libraries).

However, on of implementations that are referred at

http://www.esat.kuleuven.ac.be/~rijmen/rijndael/

is easy to compile on any UNIX environment. You can get it at http://www.cr0.net:8040/code/crypto/aes/
and it works correctly with wodCrypt (make sure you select Mode = ECB).

If you need exact samples, please let me know.
