I the SFTP component is working perfectly here...but.. I was wondering if it's possible to use the SFTP component to setup an ordinary FTP session (unsecure) or do I need another component for that?

you could use wodFtpDLX instead, it supports SFTP and FTP (and few more...) and has almost exactly the same interface as wodSFTP.
I can only hope I will have the pleasure to work with other products by "We Only Do" in the future.
